This is a great question to ask any salesperson. What needs to change for you to double your sales?

When I ask this question in my sales training programs, I tend to get blank stares from most attendees. They have this look of “It’s evident you don’t understand my business or industry or you’d see it’s not possible to double our sales.” I believe this attitude comes from them only thinking about what can happen within any given year.

The reality of selling is you’re going to double your sales every seven years if you only increase your sales 10% a year. You’ll double every five years if you sell 15% more a year and will only take four years to double sales with 20% annual growth.

We need to have salespeople thinking and understanding more moves ahead and seeing how they will be doubling their sales…eventually. We need to be helping reps to better understand what else they can be doing to grow their sales…so eventually their sales will double over today’s levels.

We can’t keep doing the same thing we’re been doing and expect to double our sales over the next few years. We need to be looking at how we can do it better than we did in the past. We need our reps to get more creative and more persuasive in their language and communications.
